Sagamore Ward Sacrament Training
The Sacrament
When I partake of the sacrament, I sometimes picture in my mind a painting that depicts the resurrected Savior with His arms outstretched, as if He is ready to receive us into His loving embrace. I love this painting. When I think about it during the administration of the sacrament, my soul is lifted as I can almost hear the Savior’s words: “Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me.”
The Sacrament
Aaronic Priesthood holders represent the Savior when they prepare, bless, and pass the sacrament. As a priesthood holder extends his arm to offer us the sacred emblems, it is as if the Savior Himself were extending His arm of mercy, inviting each one of us to partake of the precious gifts of love made available through His atoning sacrifice—gifts of repentance, forgiveness, comfort, and hope.

The Plan
- In general, there will be 2-3 people assigned:
- Blesser
- Prepares, blesses, follows passer with empty tray, cleans
- If there is an extra person, they will be the follower
- Passer
- Passes full bread and water trays
Preparation
- Everyone to use hand sanitizer as soon as entering the church
- Bread will be provided by Bishopric
- Wash trays and sacrament table with soap and water
- Only use water trays - put cups diagonally in trays
- Two empty trays for bread; two trays filled with water
- Two more totally empty trays to collect used cups (put paper towels on bottom)
- Put one empty tray next to the bread trays and one next to the water trays on sacrament table
Blessing
- Sanitize hands during sacrament song
- Put one piece of bread into each cup
- Use handheld microphone and turn away from the sacrament table to say sacrament prayer
Passing
- Take both trays with you when passing so that you don’t need to come back to get the second tray.
- Sanitize hands after each prayer; sanitize then move back for next person to have room
- Pass to people while standing in the row in front
- Second person (typically the blesser) follows behind with an empty tray; wait for the first person to completely leave the row
- If you accidentally touch your face or mask, sanitize again
Cleaning
- The blesser will be in charge of washing all of the trays with soap and water
- Also take a paper towel and wash the sacrament table with soap and water (not Virex)
